Stroud District Council Leader's Diary: Feb 12- 21

You may have watched Thursday’s BBC2 documentary ‘The Planners’ last week which took a behind the scenes look at the work of planning officers and councillors at the council.

The series continues for another six weeks and includes filming at Development Control Committee Meetings such as this one. By the time you read this, the committee will have made decisions on applications including 24 homes on Dursley Road in Cambridge, 46 homes on a former industrial area in Wotton-under-Edge and on an outdoor skills training centre in Lodgemore Lane, Stroud.

Thursday, February 14 – Executive meeting, 7pm, Ebley Mill

This is a meeting of the council’s executive, formerly called a cabinet meeting. There is a strong housing focus tonight. Aside from a number of finance related reports, an empty homes update and the approval of our tenancy strategy are up for discussion.

It’s also Valentine’s Day so if you don’t have any other plans this evening you may wish to watch this meeting online at www.stroud.gov.uk/webcast Friday, February 15 - Youth grants deadline This Friday is the deadline for applications for grants of up to £1,000 for youth groups for opportunities such as educational trips, themed arts and music projects, first aid training and cookery workshops.

Thursday, February 21 – Council meeting, 7pm, Ebley Mill

Much number crunching has been going on behind the scenes over the past weeks as our officers calculate the precise council tax bills for all the district’s households after parish and town councils, Gloucestershire Police and the county council provided their figures. With all these figures in, this meeting will effectively sign off the council tax for the year ahead.

There are also two motions on the agenda – one to change how we elect district councillors and another controversial one on what we should do with our landfill waste.
