ONE OF the world’s leading wood turners treated members of Avon and Bristol Woodturners to an all day demonstration.

New Zealander, Rolly Munro is well known for his part turned, part carved large sculptured items often inspired by ocean creatures, Rolly demonstrated how to deep hollow vessels of all shapes and sizes at the event held on Thursday, August 7 at The Mill in Portishead High Street.

Wood turning, creating wooden objects on a lathe, is proving a hit for Avon and Bristol Woodturners who are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

John Ruffle, chairman of Avon and Bristol Woodturners, said: “Rolly Munro is recognised throughout the world as one of the leaders is his field and it was great for club members to see him in action.

“2014 is our 25th anniversary and this was just one of the exciting demonstrations and events planned. Our monthly meetings in Bristol change from Thursday evenings to Mondays from October and full details are available on the club’s website.

“Visitors are always made very welcome. Whether they are new to wood turning or very experienced we invite them to come to the next meeting and see for themselves what the club is all about?”

Meetings are held at St. Teresa's Church Hall, Gloucester Road North, Filton, Bristol in the third week of the month with the meeting commencing at 7.30pm.
