YOUNG homeless people across the region will soon benefit from a new project which will help them to transform their housing, education and employment outlook.

New government funding will open up opportunities for 150 young adults in Gloucestershire over the next three years.

Cheltenham-based County Community Projects (CCP) and housing provider P3 have come together to create Aspire Gloucestershire, a charity aimed at helping 18 to 24 year olds who struggle with homelessness.

Aspire Gloucestershire successfully attracted £1.45 million from the Fair Chance Fund, a new national government initiative.

It will be launched in January 2015 with the two charities working together to deliver the life changing project.

There are a number of reasons why homeless young adults are unable to access current local government support including limited bed spaces and the complexity of their needs.

This often leads to deepening issues such as involvement in crime, rough sleeping, substance misuse and long term benefit dependency.

Each young adult referred to Aspire will have a link worker who will provide intensive, personalised support that begins by helping them find a stable place to live. They will also be offered guidance on education, training and employment options for the duration of the three year project that will help them avoid the cycle of homelessness.

Service Manager of Aspire Ella Hawkins said: “We believe that people deserve a fair chance and that with the right support, everyone can play a positive part in their communities and live fulfilling lives.

“This project will give 150 young people, who previously would have gone on unsupported, that very chance and would not be possible without the many local organisations who will be playing a role in the delivery of the project.”

In order to successfully receive funding the partnership needed to secure support from all county, city, district and borough councils in the region.

P3 is a charity and social enterprise that runs a variety of services all over the UK, aiming to give everyone the chance feel connected to society.

CCP exists to improve the lives of children, young people, families and vulnerable adults by preventing homelessness, strengthening families and supporting independence.
