A NEW playground in Dursley has proved to be a big success – and looks set to entertain children throughout the summer.

Dursley Town Council officially opened the new playground on the town’s recreation ground on Saturday, March 28.

The equipment is suitable for a range of ages and includes a zip wire, castle mounds, swings and slides.

Three mums were at the new playground with their children on Tuesday: Kelly Creamer with her 7-year-old boy Blake; Vanessa Underwood with Toby, three, and Rebecca, 10; and Kelly Rushton with Makayla, 10, Ffion, four, and Seren, one.

Kelly said: “We came here yesterday and they were begging me to come back today

“They love it. We’re really looking forward to using it in the summer.”

Vanessa added: “We’ve been trying to come up the past two months – they were really eager for it to be ready.”

The ground has the potential to appear to children of varying ages.

Melanie said: “I’ve even managed to get my 12-year-old to come down. They were using the zip wire – which is going down well with all the kids.”

Wooden furniture on the site was supplied by Breakheart Community Project based just outside of Dursley.

Also including a poppy design in recognition of the site’s status as a Second World War memorial ground, the total cost of the playground was £70,000. The projected was funded entirely by the town council.
