THE fundraising arm of a primary school in Yate has toppled the £1,000 mark in a few months since reforming.

The Friends of North Road Primary School had disbanded but was restarted in February and has since raised a total of £1,260 for the school. The money will be spent on improvements to the playground and a bank of iPad for the pupils.

Events this year include a stand at the Iron Acton May Day celebrations, a spring disco at the school and the very successful return of the school summer fete in June. Parents, teachers, pupils and friends of the school have contributed to running the events and local businesses sponsored the fete.

As well as running events, the friends group has helped by spending a Saturday morning painting, cleaning and tidying the playground for a local artist to paint murals.

School business manager Mandy Anstice said there were already plans for the autumn, including a annual Halloween disco, Christmas fair and skittles evening to welcome parents and children who are starting at the school in September.
