A MULTI-AWARD winning pub near Berkeley will have to find more space in its bulging trophy cabinet after scooping yet another prestigious prize.

The Salutation Inn in Ham has again been named the best pub in the South West by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

Known as The Sally, the pub has now claimed the annual title twice since being taken over by new owners Pete and Claire Tiley in April 2013.

Camra has also named the pub the best in Gloucestershire for the last three years and national pub of the year in 2014.

“It’s amazing,” Pete said. “Every year the standard of beer pubs goes up and up and up and we never expect to continue to win these awards.

“To come out on top consistently is great and of course it would be wonderful to win again next year.

“However we never rest on our laurels because we know that the standard of pubs is so great and that is something that keeps us striving to do better.”

Staff will be presented with the Camra South West Pub of the Year award today, Thursday, at 7.30pm.

The awards coincide with the release of the latest edition of the organisation’s Good Beer Guide which was published on September 15.

Camra national pub of the year co-ordinator Andrea Briers said: “You have to be a great pub to get featured in the Good Beer Guide and an absolutely fantastic pub to be named a Regional Pub of the Year – so whatever happens all the pubs should be extremely proud of themselves.

"The competition really gets difficult now, with the best 16 pubs in the country up against one another to whittle it down to the best in each ‘super-region’ and then the Camra judges have the hardest job of all – deciding which of those four will be named the Camra National Pub of the Year.”
