A NEW nature themed mosaic has been unveiled in woodland near Dursley.

Created by a group of families from Cam, the piece has been installed on the Twinberrow sculpture trail.

Led by mums Emma Scott and Stacey Dent-Beeston, the group began working on the project through a scheme started by Create Gloucestershire, and Dursley Library as part of the Art for Libraries initiative.

The mums noticed that there wasn’t much provision locally for affordable craft groups that their children could access.

But with Art of Libraries help, they were able to use the meeting room above Dursley Library and get materials from Gloucester Scrapstore.

This enabled them to run sessions in the school holidays.

These was so successful they decided to make something permanent – a mosaic for the whole community to enjoy.

Supported by the Lions Club, Cam Parochial Charity and Cam and Dursley Creatives, they were able to employ Berkeley based mosaic company Tomato Jacks to teach them and the children to make the library book themed piece.

"The children were taught how to translate drawings into a mosaic design and they just loved learning a new skill," said Emma Scott.

The mosaic was unveiled by the children and mums at a special event in the woods.

Abi Nicol, Cam and Dursley’s Creative Catalyst, said she was thrilled with the final outcome.

"The mosaic is simply beautiful and looks incredible up in the woods," she said.

"I encourage everyone to go up and enjoy the artworks installed around the trail, especially now that spring is here.

"It would be lovely to see more community groups taking part and making lasting pieces for us all to enjoy."
