NEIGHBOURS and families from across Yate and Chipping Sodbury gathered for a big lunch to commemorate the coronation over the weekend.

On Sunday, May 7 families flocked to Broad Street for a traditional street party packed with free entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Families and friends gathered with their own picnics and tables and chairs to watch entertainment live music from local band Liquor & Poker, singer Yasmine Kabbala-Dolby as well as Winterbourne Border Morris.

Alexandra Arnall and Sarah Todd, co-organisers, said in a statement that it felt like the ‘entire town’ came out to celebrate.

“It was a wonderful town and a fitting way to celebrate 10 years of the Big Lunch in Chipping Sodbury,” they said.

“It felt like the whole town came out to mark the coronation and enjoy the fabulous free entertainment we were able to put on in our beautiful High Street, including local band Liquor & Poker, singer Yasmine Kabbala-Dolby, giant bubble fun and Winterbourne Border Morris.

“We are grateful for the grants and financial support we received as well as the help of lots of people on the day and a special thanks to all our Big Lunch who worked so hard to put on such a great day for the whole town to enjoy.”

Photographer Rich McD caught all of the action from the day.

Chipping Sodbury’s Big Lunch has been held annually since June 2012 where the town came out in force to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a street party.

Previous celebrations themes have included seaside, mediaeval, Western, and the D-Day landings.
