A LOCAL choir has been given the Royal seal of approval by singing for the King, a day after the coronation.
Rock Choir - whose members are from Stroud, Yate as well as Bath, Bristol and Cheltenham - sung at Highgrove House on Sunday, May 7.
The group was invited to sing as guests for the Big Lunch event at Highgrove joining other community members and emergency service personnel.
The event came just a day after the King was crowned at the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, which was watched by millions.
Choir leader Alex Hawker said: “It was a real privilege to sing at Highgrove on the weekend of the Coronation, especially for an event celebrating members of the community, as Rock Choir are focussed on supporting the communities we are based within.
“The chosen singers were all very nervous but did a fantastic job.
“Nerves were certainly amplified when it became clear that the King and Queen had in fact gone back to Highgrove to spend the night after the Coronation.
“Whilst we didn’t see any royalty, a member of the household staff informed us that the King was in his study nearby, with the doors open, and could hear the choir singing.
“A very special Coronation moment for us.”
The King and Queen were spotted travelling back to Tetbury on Saturday, May 6.
The newly crowned King – whose family residence at Highgrove Estate is near Tetbury – returned to the area following the historic occasion.
The then Prince Charles first came to Highgrove in 1980 and the house and gardens have since undergone many innovations.
