PLANS for a new care home in Thornbury have been unveiled.

Care home developers LNT Care Developments has applied to South Gloucestershire Council to build a 66-bedroom residential home as part of the new Cleve Park development.

It is believed the proposed two-storey home along Morton Way would create around 55 new jobs - with 33 full time and 22 part time positions created.

Proposals include building a cinema, a salon, two quiet lounges, two separate dining rooms, a cafe, a small shop, a library and reception area.

In addition, plans include building a laundry room, a kitchen, two garden rooms, an office space, and a staff room with a kitchen plus its own toilets.

The site plan also shows reveals plans for two courtyards, a landscaped garden, cycle storage, as well as solar panels installed on the roof.

Additionally, the application includes creating 25 parking spaces, with six electric vehicle charging bays and two accessible spaces, a drop off area and a cycle store for eight bikes.

Keeley Sharp, strategic land director at LNT Care Developments said: “We are pleased to have submitted planning to South Gloucestershire Council for the care home scheme in Thornbury.

“We are hopeful that it will add to an established and emerging pipeline of sites across the South West and supports our strategy to continue to address the shortfall in quality care provision across the UK.”

The proposed care home is located in the middle of the Cleve Park development, where housing developer Miller Homes is currently constructing 336 homes.

Planning permission was previously granted for the site at appeal in 2018 for 350 dwellings, 14 self-build dwellings and a 70-bed care home by planning inspectorate Clive Hughes.

It came after SGC previously refused planning permission for the development in March 2017.

A council document reads: “The applicant intends to make bed spaces available to residents from the existing area (within three miles) and aims to recruit staff from the same catchment.

“The development of this site enables a positive contribution to the area by developing a site that will serve as a valuable asset for elderly people in the surrounding area and an employment-generating use.”
