A BANK in Wotton has applied to remove its ATM machine ahead of its closure.

Lloyds, which has a branch in Long Street, has sent an application to Stroud District Council to remove its ATM and external signage.

The application was sent on Friday, July 7.

Lloyds is due to close its doors for the final time next month in August.

In a statement from the bank, it previoulsy said in April: "Like many other high street businesses, we've seen people using our branches less frequently in recent years as more customers choose to do most of their everyday banking online.

"We're responding to the way our customers use our branches.

"We'll continue to invest in our branch network, but we have to make sure our branches are where customers need and use them most.

"As a result, we've made the difficult decision to close this branch because customers are using it less often.

"In addition the majority of customers are also using alternative ways to bank."

A council document reads: “This branch of Lloyds Bank in Wotton-Under-Edge is to close.

“Since the bank is to close, there is no purpose in having signage to attract people to the property, it would be misleading.

“It will not be possible to service the ATM and therefore it is to be removed.

“The individual letters fascia sign, tablet sign, branch address plaque, access ramp direction sign, and the hanging projecting sign and bracket will be removed

"The redundant fixing holes will be filled with lime mortar to match the stonework as closely as possible."

Tony Davey, the chair of Stroud district chamber of trade previously said: "The closure of banks not only impacts the staff who were employed there and their customers.

"In Wotton-under-Edge, this loss will (as it stands) impact the availability of cash machines, which impacts those who use cash to help them budget.”

Meanwhile, Stroud District Councillor leader Catherine Braun, who represents Wotton at SDC, previously said she was "disappointed" by the bank’s closure.
