A BRILLIANT poppy display has been set up in Iron Acton. 

Poppies have been knitted, crocheted or sewn from felt by the village’s craft group and people from the surrounding area. 

Members of Acton Aid put the display in place.

Communities across the area will remember those who have given their lives for their country this week on Armistice Day, Saturday, and on Remembrance Sunday.

Here is a round-up of some of the events taking place.

List of remembrance services from across the area 

Chipping Sodbury

A Remembrance Day parade is taking place on Sunday, November 12. 

It will congregate at 2.15pm in Rounceval Street, Chipping Sodbury. 

The parade will start at 2.45pm.

Thornbury

A Remembrance day parade and service is taking place on Sunday, November 12. 

The Parade will start outside the Town Hall at 10am. It will continue down the High Street and Castle Street arriving at St Mary’s Church for a service at 10.30am. 

Yate

A Remembrance day parade and service is taking place on November 12. 

People are invited to meet Poole Court at 9.15am to parade along Poole Court Drive, Home Orchard and onto Station Road. 

The parade is due to begin at 9.30am. A service at St Mary's Church will start at 10.00am.

Wreaths will then be laid at the Lych Gate and Parnall Grave at 11.00am. 

Following the laying of the wreaths, refreshments will be served in the Old School Building (St Mary's Youth Centre).

Cam

A Remembrance service is due to take place at St George's Church at 9.30am on Sunday, November 12. 

This will be followed by Remembrance at Cam Hopton Memorial at 11am. 

Hopton Road will be closed from 10.30am till 11.30am to allow the event to happen safely.  No parking on site will be available.

Dursley

Wreaths will be laid at the WW2 memorial at the Pavilion on the War Memorial Recreation Ground, Dursley at 11am on Saturday, November 11.

A Remembrance Day parade is also taking place on November 12. 

People are asked to assemble at the bus station in May Lane. 

The parade will leave at 2.45pm marching via May Lane, Castle Street and Silver Street. 

It then will stop in Silver Street outside St James Church, turn and march into Long Street.

A service is due to start at 3pm in St James Church. 

Between 3.30pm and 3.45pm a wreath laying party assembles in front of War Memorial Gates for Act of Remembrance.

Between 3.45pm to 4pm the parade will reform in Long Street and finish.

Wotton

A Remembrance day parade and service is taking place in Wotton on November 12. 

It is due to start from the Chipping at 10.40am and continue along Market Street, Long Street, and Church Street, arriving at the War Memorial in Old Town at 10.50am. 

The Civic Service will take place at the War Memorial including the two minutes silence, playing of the National Anthem, and the laying of wreaths. 

The Parade will continue along Culverhay to St Mary’s Parish Church for the dismissal.

This will be followed by a service in St Mary’s Parish Church. 

Surrounding areas

A Remembrance Sunday Service is being held at St George's Church in Falfield at 10.50am. 

A Remembrance Service is being held at St Andrew's Church, Cromhall at 10.45am. 

Other services are also taking place in Almondsbury, Charfield, Frampton Cotterell and Westerleigh.
