A DEDICATED volunteer who has helped run poppy collections across the South Gloucestershire area is due to attend a special event this weekend.

Ian Campbell, who is also an RAF Reservist will take part in the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow, Saturday, November 11.

Ian first got involved in the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in 2014 when, still in his RAF training, took part in London Poppy Day.

In 2018, Ian moved to Bristol and continued to be involved with the RBL.

He eventually took over the role of Poppy Appeal Organiser for Bristol and South Gloucestershire, where he has run successful collections across the areas.

This year, Ian, alongside thousands of other dedicated volunteers, has been distributing the plastic-free poppy for the first time.

Ian is thoroughly looking forward to taking part in the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, calling it a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.

For the 2023 Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be joined by members of the Royal Family at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Hosted by Clare Balding – music artists include British soul legend Mica Paris, popstar Calum Scott, Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery, Festival favourite Alfie Boe, singer songwriter Katie Melua, chart-topping DJ-duo Sigma featuring Morgan and 14-year-old opera singing sensation Malaki.

The event is being shown on BBC One at 9pm.
