This year’s Christmas concert by the Dursley area’s Tyndale Choral Society is set to provide a showcase for three up-and-coming instrumentalists.

The concert, at the Dursley Tabernacle on December 20, will feature Christmas music from the Oxford Book of Carols, as well as the chorus ‘And the Glory of the Lord’ from Handel’s Messiah.

But for the first time, there will also be music from three youngsters selected by local music tutor Kim Ward.

Choir Chairman Magnus Carter said: “I saw these lads perform at a fund-raiser for local scouts some time ago, and thought then that they deserve a wider audience. The quality of their playing completely belies their age.”

Benedict Coupe, who lives in Cam, has been playing piano since he was 3 and recently achieved a merit in his Grade 7 exams. For the Tyndale concert, he will play the hugely popular ‘Walking in the Air’ by Howard Blake, from the film ‘The Snowman.’

Leo Lai also has a Grade 7 distinction on piano. He’ll be playing ‘The Christmas Song’, arranged by Carsten Gerlitz. He will also accompany clarinnetist Theo Barrett, in ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas.’ Theo is just 12.

The concert is at 7pm on Wednesday December 20, under the baton of Music Director Ben Sawyer. Members of the audience will be able to join in with five of the most popular carols. Tickets are £10, including seasonal refreshments. www.tyndale-choral-society.org.uk.
