THE SUN was out in Yate as a rearranged hockey tournament concluded this season's fixtures, writes Diana Pugh-Hudson

Having been cancelled for a frozen pitch, the rearranged Under 10s Avon League Tournament took place at YOSC on Sunday.

Yate u10s, who only had the bare 7 players, started their first game against Weston-super-Mare like a rocket!

A great tackle by Olivia who quickly passed to Spark to split the defence with a pass through to Olly who ran along the baseline and slipped it through keepers legs, just like his Dad has done years before!

Yate quickly doubled their lead through Olly again with some nice interplay with Tom and double his tally and Yate's.

Christian was solid in defence stopping any attack Weston could throw at Yate and Tabby cleverly played a ball onto Weston’s feet leading to Yate's first shuttle.

Tom stepped up with a hard shot straight into the bottom corner, 3-0!

Weston came back strongly with two quick counter attacks but thanks to two brilliant saves from William Yate cleared their lines.

Again Tom and Olly linked in brilliantly with a 2v1 which found Olly again on the baseline and there was no way he was passing with the chance of a hatrick and £5 a goal promise from his parents and calmly scored his third!

With one minute to go Olivia again made a great take and first time pass into Tom who danced around the defender and slapped home the 5th goal.

First game 5-0 win!

Yate went on to play four more games in the group stages winning three and losing one, which meant they went through into the main shield semi final to play Old Bristolians.

A late arrival Joe, who had been busy playing football in the morning, came to help battle against a very strong Old B’s, but the back to back hockey took its toll on their legs and they eventually lost 3-0.

This put Yate in the 3rd/4th place play off, where they fought hard but lost 2-0 to Westbury Hockey Academy.

Yate u10s therefore finished 4th out of 12 teams.

Our under 10s played so well and we are all very proud of the hockey they played! Yate super stars did themselves proud!
