SODBURY Tennis Club enjoyed another successful Avon Summer League season, both in the ladies and the men’s teams.

Overall, five of their eight teams played to their standard, holding their places in their respective division, with the men’s thirds gaining promotion to the Fourth Division and the seconds and thirds relegated after hard-fought battles over the ten weeks, suffering regular absences due to injuries and other commitments.

The men's first team were third in Division Two, while the seconds were third equal on points, but unlucky to be placed fifth due to results against tied teams, so were relegated to Division Four.

Sodbury thirds won Division 5B, with the fourths relegated after finishing fifth in Division Six

The men's fifth team finished third in their division.

Sodbury ladies firsts and seconds both finished third in Division 2A and Division 4B respectively, with the thirds finishing fourth in Division 6B, beating David Lloyd Westbury on rubbers won against them.

In the ladies section, Sarah Robbins and Julia Speak had a great first league season with Sodbury, winning most of their matches in both the second and third teams.

The ladies teams also benefitted from having Chelsea Payne playing several matches, one of their very promising junior players.
