DURSLEY Running Club were led home by Dan Anderson at the second event in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League at Malvern.

Unusually more Dursley men were present than women and Anderson ventured out again despite finding the first race in the series unappetizing.

The climbing was more to Anderson’s tastes and he had a good race to finish 21st with his fellow ultra runner Andrew Truswell placing 74th on his debut.

A good turnout meant that Dursley men placed 15th overall and 13th in the masters event, in the latter beating Forest, Stroud and Gloucester on the day.

The women’s team were led in by Margaret Johnson with Alice Lewis a mere two second in arrears, both placing third in their respective age categories.

After Kate Browning pulled up, team captain Erica Fuller scored vital points to place the team 13th overall and ninth in the masters.

Results – Senior Men/Vets: Dan Anderson 37:02, 21st; Andrew Truswell 41:36 74th ; David Durden 42:16 85th (6th MV50); Tony Wooldridge 43:23 105th (3rd MV60); Pete Dunn 52:07 193rd; Chris Ashworth 52:34 195th; Roly Hobbs 56:45 214th (9th MV65).

On the same day a number of Dursley Running Club members were facing their own personal challenges and overcoming them.

Shona Darley achieved a personal best at the Chipping Sodbury parkrun; finally getting under 25 minutes for 5k in 24.44.

Mathew Sutton completed the 6k Monster Mud Race, coming 60th in a field of 388 in 55.22.

Dave Saunders, Kate Browning and Alice Lewis competed in the Tewkesbury AC Guy Fawkes 5 miler, the penultimate race in the Glos AAA Road Race Series. The course is fairly flat and the conditions were excellent.

Browning led the Dursley team home with Saunders and Lewis cementing their pole positions in the Road Race Series.

Results: Kate Browning 34:48 65th (2nd LV40); Dave Saunders 35:56 86th (3rd MV65), Alice Lewis 37:26 108th (2nd LV55).

Slightly closer to home, two Dursley runners, Chris Young and Anthony Ball, ran the Rogue Racer 5k trail run at Woodchester Park, both pleasantly surprising themselves with their high finishing positions.

Results: Chris Young, 9th, 24.43; Anthony Ball, 14th, 27.05.
