Division 1 South and West

Clevedon Town 1 Yate Town 2

THIS local derby started at a fast pace with both sides looking to take the upper hand but with the defences on top it was always going to be difficult for the forwards to break through.

Yate had several long range chances in the first fifteen minutes with Jordan Rodgers creating problems for the home defence with both head and feet. Clevedon welcomed new signing Ben Bament to their ranks and he settled in very well alongside regulars who had not played for almost three weeks because of cancellations caused by the weather.

The half looked like ending in stalemate until a corner to Yate, on their right hand side, was floated in to the six yard box by James Harmer where it was met by Andy Lewis who duly nodded it down into the bottom corner.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with both sides playing attractive, open football with the defences again coming out on top. Clevedon pulled level courtesy of an own goal from Josh Ford following a scintillating run down the right by new boy Ben Bament, his final cross hitting Ford and wrong footing Martin Horsell.

Within five minutes however, the visitors were back in front when a free kick out on the right was sent in to the area by James Harmer where it was met by Jordan Rodgers whose powerful header went past Kane Mannings.

Despite an all out effort, the home side were unable to find the net again and Yate ran out winners.
