League Cup
Wotton Rovers U14s 3 Abbeymead Rovers 2
KATHARINE Lady Berkeley School’s sports complex saw some sparkling football from the Wotton Rovers boys to see them secure victory in a league cup fixture.
A hard-fought first half saw Abbeymead go in 1-0 up with a well drilled defensive effort from the visitors denying the hosts space up front.
But the second half saw a change in fortunes with the pace and movement of Tom Herbert and Harry Penfold opening things up, and it was a long range beauty from the latter that sailed in over the Abbeymead keeper to make things level.
Soon after a curled effort from Ben Stacey found its way in to put Wotton up and he grabbed his second minutes later cutting in from the left to tuck past the hapless opposition goalie.
Staunch defending led by captain Leo Wells and the irrepressible Denny Phillips couldn’t prevent Abbeymead grabbing a late second with almost the last kick of the game but it was Wotton who came out triumphant deservedly winning.
