IN the penultimate game of the season, City thumped a lacklustre Huddersfield Town 4-0 at Ashton Gate to send the home fans home happy and in some expectation that next season will deliver more displays like this.

It has really been our home form that has caused us to struggle for most of the season but under Lee Johnson it’s noticeably picked up.

In fact, we’re not just winning games at home now but winning them convincingly whilst playing some fantastic attacking football.

There was an early warning for the away side when Kodjia broke through on goal but slashed the ball wide from close-range. Just before half-time Kodjia broke away down the left and from almost exactly the same position as his early chance – this time made no mistake by drilling the ball in at the near post.

City doubled their lead 20 minutes into the second half as Bryan finished with a powerful left-footed shot into the far corner from inside the area. City continued to push forward and were in the mood for more goals having recently put 4 past Sheffield Wednesday and 6 past Bolton.

Three minutes later it was Kodjia again, notching his 20th goal in an extremely promising first season in English football. This strike was maybe his best finish of the season as he lashed the ball home with his right foot from outside the area.

But the best goal of the day was City’s last of the afternoon and came through a moment of brilliance from Lee Tomlin. He lifted the ball past a defender with his right foot before lashing home a half-volley into the top corner with his left. Johnson said after the game that “the goal had a touch of genius about it” and I think he’s right. I’ve said it enough times; but we must do all we can to sign him permanently!

City’s season ends this Saturday at Loftus Road as we face Queens Park Rangers (12.30pm). We can’t catch QPR who are in 13th place but a win could see us finish as high as 15th in the table which would be a good achievement.
