IT was Club Championship weekend at Cotswold Edge Golf Club and the early morning mist did not put the competitors off with some very good cards being returned.

The stroke play competition is played over two days with trophies for both Men and Ladies Gross and Nett winners.

Ladies club champion Mel Lee retained her title for the fourth year in a row with a gross 167 and Sandra Cutts carded an extremely impressive first round nett 67 to win the Skillin Nett Trophy.

Vernon Chappell was crowned men’s champion with a gross 148 and Vince Taylor’s impressive second round nett 65 earned him the Hubert Tarr Trophy for the best nett.

The first round of the men’s competition also included the July Medal.

Winners: Division 1: Ben Chappell nett 67, Bob Hanks 69 and David Wilks 70; Division 2: Pete Reynolds 69, Tracy Tomlin 69 and Geoff Gillingham 70; Division 3: Mike McConville 67, Mark Niblett 69 and Alan Johnson 70.

Cotswold Edge ladies took the honours in the County Fraser Foursomes competition held at Stinchcombe Golf Club.

Junior organiser Ali Buncher and junior captain Hannah Brown-Pearce won the stroke play competition, played over 36 holes, with a nett 138 for the two rounds nine shots ahead of clubmates Gill Polley and Anne Crawley who were second on count back with 147.

The ladies friendly team played host to Wragg Barn and were very happy with their 5–3 win on the day. The Senior Captain’s Day was well supported and Steve Leach won the Stableford competition trophy with 37 points. Winners: Division 1: Roger Moss 36, John Barnes 35 and Kim Sharp 35; Division 2: Steve Leach 37, Roger Johnson 34 and Twister Taylor 33. Alan McCann carded an under par nett 70 to win the Midweek Medal.
