IT was another action-packed round of matches for Yate Hockey Club last weekend.

Yate Ladies 1s put in a strong performance to come away with the three points when they travelled to Wotton-under-Edge on Saturday.

Yate scored first through Jess Brain and despite some good goalkeeping from the home keeper, Yate continued to create chances and Brain scored her second after 20 minutes. Zoe Vale then finished a well-worked short corner routine to make it 3-0 at the break.

In the second half Yate remained camped in the Wotton half and Brain completed her hat trick when finishing off a great team move. It was very much her day and she added a fourth before Kyishia Cooke scored Yate's sixth and final goal to round off a comprehensive victory.

Yate ladies 2s were also in action and they opened up a ten-point lead at the top of the league when they hosted third-placed Bristol University 3s.

The students didn’t have a goalkeeper and the 11 outfield players made things difficult for Yate. However, a goal came after 18 minutes when Rachael McConnell passed forward to Sally Ellis, she took a backfoot shot, which Kim Harris deflected into the net.

The students equalized but Yate were in the lead at half-time thanks to a goal from Bailey Jones.

In the second-half the match remained close but Yate found the backboard twice more in the last 10 minutes, Sally Ellis scoring first from a penalty corner strike and then from a well-worked penalty corner involving the three joint players of the match; Jeanette Seavill and Hannah before Ellis put it home to secure a 4-1 win.

Yate ladies 3s met Knowle 3s. They failed to capitalise on a dominant start but the pressure did eventually tell just before the half-time whistle when Alexandra Bessex tucked a shot away into the corner.

10 minutes into the second half Knowle scored from a penalty corner giving Yate another injection of energy for a while. Unfortunately, a goal-mouth scramble then left the Yate goalkeeper with a fractured arm.

Yate decided to play eleven outfield and there was a short spell of disarray before the team regained its shape. Yate held off some pressure from Knowle and then got the momentum back before re-taking the lead through Nic Bruce.

Yate held on for the remaining seven minutes and took the much-needed three points.

As for the men, they had two sides out last weekend.

Yate 1s traveled over the bridge to Gwent 1 but lost 7-4 with goals coming from Matt Robins, Nick Perry-Gough and there was a brace for Dom Chambers.

Yate 2s hosted Whitchurch 3s but lost 8-2. Marc and Will scored the goals for Yate.
