IT was another busy weekend of action across the board for teams representing Yate Hockey Club.

Five teams were playing league fixtures around the country; including three ladies teams and two men's sides.

Starting off with the Yate Ladies 1s, they were on the road at Redland and it was an incredibly competitive affair in which Yate were shown seven yellow cards.

It all went wrong to start with for Yate after Redland converted a penalty corner, captain Zoe Vale was given a yellow card for making a substitution during the corner.

Yate received another two yellows in quick succession for first offence stick tackles and Redland capitalised on this good fortune to score again with Yate down to 9.

At 2-0 down it was a big ask of Yate to come back, but that is exactly what they did. Vale led from the front and in the 29th minute, after Redland had gone a player down due to a yellow card, Antonia Joy converted from a penalty corner to pull one back for the visitors.

Five minutes later, the two-goal lead was restored by Redland on the counter-attack but moments before half-time, Kyishia Cooke scored a second goal for Yate to make it 3-2 at the break.

The second half saw Yate dominate for long periods and win many penalty corners. However, Yate were also shown two green and a yellow card.

Nevertheless, the equaliser came when Diana Pugh-Hudson attacked into the D along the back line and passed back to Cooke, who played the ball across goal and Belcher was on hand to score and complete the comeback to secure a 3-3 draw.

As for Yate Ladies 2s, they were beaten 5-2 away at Keynsham 1s and the Yate 3s edged a thriller at Westberries 5s, winning 4-3. A hat-trick from Nicola Bruce and an Alexandra Bessex goal proved decisive.
