SATURDAY saw the launch of Yate Hockey Club's brand new VX3 home kit, and it was a hugely successful first outing as all four teams took points from their league matches.

Ladies 1s

Yate Ladies 1s hosted bottom-of-the-table Bristol & West Jaspers 1. However, Jaspers showed plenty of enthusiasm and skill to make it a close game. Yate took a 1-0 lead when Emily Austin positioned herself well to sweep home after some great build-up play.

Jaspers had some breakaway chances but the Yate defence held firm and took their slender lead into the break.

The second half saw Yate camped in the opposition half as they sought another goal to please the watching crowd. Player of the match Millie Vale-Webb and others made plenty of strong attacks, but Jaspers defended well.

From the penalty corners the home side did win, they could not quite find the goal, and so Yate settled for a 1-0 victory.

Men’s 1s

Yate men’s 1s emerged 3-3 when they hosted Swansea 2. Dom Chambers scored a brace for Yate and Dylan Jackson the other.

Ladies 2s

Yate Ladies 2s took on Marlborough 1s in an action-packed match. With both clubs fighting to stay in their division, it was Yate who dominated possession but it was Marlborough whose counter-attacks kept the game moving at pace.

Marlborough took the lead through a penalty corner and held onto it through a stubborn defensive display, Nicola Bruce going closest when hitting the post.

In the second half, Sally Ellis Thomas equalised from a Kim Harris assist but Marlborough went ahead again late on. But another Harris assist saw newcomer Lucy Mackenzie equalise once more to earn a point.

Men’s 2s

Yate men’s 2s posted a convincing 5-1 victory over Firebrands 5 to stay a point clear at the top of the table. The home side dominated and were 4-0 up at half-time. Parrot scored a hattrick for Yate, with Will D and James S scoring the other two.
